By Janet Evanovich and Charlotte Hughes.
Much to my surprise, Full Speed is MUCH better than its predecessor. By a drastic lot.
I'm not sure what the difference is. Maybe it helps to have Max and Jamie out of their elements- this book takes place out of town as they try to track down a charismatic preacher with mob connections- and with less of the silly that comes along with say, Deedee. Maybe it helps that Max is actually fallible this go-round. And that Muffin's being less silly. And that Jamie is doing pretty dang well for herself. And gets a dog.
Either way, it's a MUCH better book. Huzzah! The detecting in it is pretty interesting as well, with some characters knowing more about what's going on than others. I also find it interesting that Jamie, kind of in spite of herself, is a little swept away by the preacher guy. If there's one strange note in the mix, it's that Jamie's other romantic suitor, well...without getting into spoiler territory, it's kind of odd that he isn't putting more moves on her.
But still, good job! Three and a half stars.
