This is officially my favorite LDR book ever. Frigging brilliant! It's got a really interesting concept, as well.
Carly is a television producer in Arizona who goes to interview a "psychic quiltmaker." While Carly's not against psychicness per se (her sister Five (odd nickname, yes) has psychic dreams), she is against the idea of charging that much money for a quilt and a reading, and thinks the whole concept is bizarre. The quiltmaker, Brandy, explains that she makes these quilts ahead of time not knowing who they are for, and when the "owner" shows up at her door, she does a reading.
And she happens to have a quilt for Carly, and gives her a freebie.
And then, in the words of Brandy...Carly gets Towered. Her mother that abandoned the family long ago comes back, and everyone but Carly wants her to stay. Her male best friend confesses his secret love for her, which isn't reciprocated by Carly. And then her boss runs off and she loses her job. Having had everything collapse around her, Carly runs off to confront Brandy... and ends up starting a new life in Bilby, Arizona, renting a place from Brandy, getting a more mellow job, and hanging out with her other sister's ex, Will.
This is great chick lit. Great development, great characters, great use of the gimmicks (I WANT A PSYCHIC QUILT SO BAD NOW). Five stars from me. Any chick lit fan should pick this one up.
