What's the worst thing a bunch of psychic investigators fear the most?
A psychic serial killer. A very gifted one.
This novel kicks off what promises to be a terrifying series of books. The Special Crimes Unit of the FBI has a new director that's causing trouble and forcing the feds to keep a low profile. And the members of Haven, a private civilian operation doing the same sort of work, get enlisted to help track down this guy. One of the killer's victims was a senator's daughter, and Noah Bishop (who runs the SCU) would like to see the guy caught before the senator takes things into his own hands.
Dani and her twin Paris are Haven employees whose talents tie together some. The serial killer has moved to their hometown, and Dani, whose primary ability is psychic dreams, keeps having the same awful recurring dream where she and SCU folks--and who is in the dream varies--go into a trap. Her dreams promise to put her comrades in danger--and why isn't her sister in the dream?
This is an ominous book and ends on kind of a (frustrating, but it is a trilogy) cliffhanger. Very chilling. I do have one pretty major/strange problem about the end, which goes below the cut. Otherwise, it has good character use and development here. 3 and 3/4 stars.

Um...so you've broken in and found the killer guy being tormented by ghosts. Why on earth does everyone stand around and talk, rescue the new captive, and otherwise chit chat WITHOUT anyone stopping to disarm/neutralize/capture the guy? WTF? Cannot remotely conceive why anyone wouldn't take care of this as the #1 priority. I read it several times and no, doesn't look like anyone ever did! PROBLEM!
