In this book, Mercy and Adam get married. It's very cute. Then they go off on a camping trip honeymoon along the Columbia River....with a trailer especially provided by fae Uncle Mike. Who apparently had opinions-- based on a psychic prediction from another fae-- that it'd be a good idea if Mercy and Adam were around that area at that time.
As it turns out, there's a "river devil" monster/fae creature that's been unleashed in the river, and it's eating tons and tons of people. Mercy and Adam team up with the local Native American medicine man and his friends to figure out how to handle the problem-- but they're also being assisted by Coyote and other immortal animal spirit folk.
A cool aspect of this book is that Mercy has had next to no knowledge of walkers (people who can painlessly switch to another animal form). In this book, she meets a few others AND finds out how she is one. I appreciated the explanation. She and Coyote...well, there's some kind of family tie there even if technically speaking, Coyote claims it's not what it looks like. I enjoyed Mercy and Coyote's relationship, as well as watching her and Adam be all schmoopy with each other on their honeymoon.
In the end, Mercy has a very hard time solving the river devil problem even with supernatural assistance-- kind of shockingly so in a way-- but the book resolves well and I enjoyed it.
Note to book cover designers/marketers: Mercy would like you to know that she doesn't have this many tattoos and doesn't plan on getting herself overly marked beyond her pawprint tats. Thank you!
Four stars.
Yeah, I am not crazy about the cover either... Not sure what they are thinking there.
