By Carrie Fisher.
I love Carrie Fisher, so I'll admit that I am biased about that while reading this book. My only quibble with it is that I want more, please. I don't know if she's up to writing more, but please, write down more of these amazing stories before the ECT zaps them away! I will totally help ghost write that if you'd like, Carrie!
(I have also decided that should I ever be in a point in my life where I can meet and re-meet Carrie Fisher, I want to keep asking her to autograph my book and see what happens when she sees that she's already done it. I think she'd deeply enjoy this, under the circumstances.)
The subjects are:
- Carrie getting ECT and how really, it's not all that bad except for the memory issues, so she'd better write these stories down now.
- A brief coverage of her weight issues.
- "The Senator," about her date with Senator Chris Dodd. Memorable because they are on a triple date with, among other folks, Ted Kennedy. And Ted Kennedy asks thoroughly shocking and rude questions...and Carrie answers back. Muahahahah. Love this.
- Carrie's friendship with Michael Jackson, including spending Christmas with him. She also knew the dentist that sued him because of the kiddie sleepovers, and she found the dude to be totally creepy (and all for it) before the lawsuit.
- A horrificly funny recollection of her stepfather Harry Karl, who was apparently one of the most disgusting men on earth and only good for his money...until he lost it and his wife's, anyway. Seriously gross but funny.
- "Oy! My Pa-Pa," Carrie's telling of growing up with and without her dad, doing drugs with him, his women, and his final years. Also, how Elizabeth Taylor threw her into a pool.
The woman is an amazing storyteller. More books, one-woman-shows, anything you want, Carrie. I had a shitty morning the day I read this on and needed this book as a funny palate-cleanser and pick-me-up, and it delivered.
Four stars.
