Earl the vampire and Duke the werewolf are two pretty ordinary redneckish dudes, despite their supernatural powers. They drift from town to town. Pulling into the diner in Rockwood one evening, they discover that it's being overrun by zombies and other evil paranormal shit on a pretty frequent basis these days. When Loretta, the waitress currently running the place after the disappearance of Gil, offers them $100 to get rid of the zombies, they take her up on it. Rockwood is a hotbed of paranormal shit, to the point where people don't bat much of an eyelash if something freaky happens at the miniature golf course, or people disappear, or whatever. Hell, Duke can flat out tell the sheriff that he's a werewolf and nobody's fazed.
The person starting all the trouble is Tammy...er, Mistress Lilith...a 17-year-old girl with dark side powers and who naturally wants to stir them up. Well, her and her lone minion/boyfriend Chad, who is too dumb to know better. So yeah, you know right off the bat whodunit, but "how to thwart it" takes some work.
Hm, I can't think of any more plot summary to do here. But you get the drift. It's a fun story to read, and the main characters are sweet to hang out with. You particularly feel for Duke when he explains how he and Earl met during the darkest period of his life, and you feel for Earl when he has the worst moment of his. The romance (as opposed to bromance) is also sweet. Four stars for good reading!
