Note: man, that book is cute, but instructional information is left out all over the damn place. In the case of this pattern, it doesn't tell you very well at all how to stitch up the body, and frankly, I think there's a whopping typo in the "how to put the spikes on" section because it just plain doesn't work if you do it as typed. Where the hell is errata/corrections for this, anyway?
