Yeah, yeah, I know, "why are you reading a teenage novel?" But it's really good! It's like, my second favorite book ever now!
This is for the disillusioned ones, the cynics, and the bitter. Here's to y'all.
Remy is the just-graduated-from-high-school daughter of a romance novelist who's going down the aisle yet againt this summer, and a one-hit-wonder dead father who never met her, but did write the song everyone knows, "This Lullaby." She's just hoping to endure the summer before she can finally flee to California and college.
Enter Dexter, a singer in a band (and vague relative of her latest stepfather, in that six-degrees kinda way), who spots Remy and knows this is the woman for him. Remy is not remotely as convinced of this as he is, and frankly, anyone that wants more than a quick fling is not what she wants.
Or so she thinks.
Remy's a prickly but enjoyable character, and I was addicted to this book like crack. I was touched. It ain't just for kids, even if the situation is set up that way.
Five stars.
