This is a new series about almost wives. Kate Winton-Jones is engaged to a rich enough dude to land a "designer" wedding dress designer. But when some blood gets on her dress and the seamstress curses both the designer and the dress, things go awry.
Which is to say, she goes to dinner with her fiance Ted and he's distracted and bails out--and then some other guy joins her for dinner and is nice and kinda flirty. Kate ends up blurting out a few honest facts about herself--she's not thrilled at signing a prenup, she really doesn't like that designer dress or designer snobbery anyway--but does NOT end up putting moves on the guy, Nick. At the end of the night he tells her she shouldn't marry Ted. This turns out to be because Nick is a PI/old college buddy of Ted's that Ted hired to attempt to seduce his fiance, and Kate goes over to Ted's at the wrong moment to overhear that information.
A disgusted Kate breaks off the engagement and stomps out and runs off for awhile, doing a few smart moves like switching cars with a friend, cutting her hair, ditching her phone, and driving off to Carlsbad to get a job as a surfing instructor for awhile while she thinks stuff out. A guilty yet attracted Nick tracks her down and they get romantically involved, but at some point Kate's gonna go home and resolve things a bit.
Honestly, this book was okay, but pretty much nothing stood out about it as being particularly stand out. Kate's a nice enough girl but not a super memorable personality, Nick's a nice enough dude but also doesn't have a super memorable personality, Ted has the virgin/whore dynamic going on in his personal life, and that's about it. I kinda can't come up with anything else to say, other than three stars.
