I wanted to like this book. It's cute and fun and the characters seem sweet, and there's a fun scene in which a bunch of football players draft a plan for wooing the lady. I find it endearing that the female narrator is offering cheap/free dance classes to teens. It's all very sweet. Buuuuuuuuuuuut....seriously, there's very little plot or conflict to this. I was looking for a friends-to-lovers and this book certainly delivers, but the problem is that both of them obviously have the hots for each other and have all along for like 6 years. She is all "He'd never go for the likes of me, I'm not as hot as his girlfriends" and he is all "she always says we're just friends," and nothing happens. Two hot athletic people think they aren't wanted? Yeah, right. Literally the only reason why they are not together is she chickens out on the idea.
100+ pages in and I was all "I'm bored, why aren't you boning already, I see no reason for you not to, and wanking on about "just friends" is a "yeah, right" to nearly everyone. And then they have to "fake date" for money and the agent is all "fake date or real date, whatevs," and I'm all, there's no suspense here, there's just me thinking, "Why aren't they already boning? This is dumb."
I read some reviews and everyone else loved it, forcing me to actually check Goodreads and see if I was the only one having problems with this. Turns out I am not.
I wanted to like it, but...sigh. I'm bored, I don't want to finish.
