"So, the decision is made." And without even bothering to mention it to me, bitch?
"So she officially has the Mississauga job, and is just now revealing it to a man that she supposedly talks to on the phone every day. Their separation and the fact that they are not looking at each is nicely done. Dialogue-wise it is interesting that getting a summer job has provoked such an emotional reaction. Why is she so happy, she cried? Is getting a “real job down South” the source of her happiness? Is it the fact that she won’t have to work for Lawrence and Nick again, the reason? Or is it the fact that she can probably work out of Mississauga, and thus not have to live in the same house with Elly and John the reason? Only time will tell. Or knowing Liz, maybe not.
I actually loved the way Paul phrased this, “So, the decision is made.” It represents his position perfectly.
Paul has been represented as so much in love with Liz; he would do anything for her. I knew a breakup coming from him wouldn’t happen without it being a complete shift in his characterization. In an astonishing move for this strip, they leave him in character. It’s so amazing, even Liz questions whether or not he is serious.
All the FBoFW storylines repeat these days. Here’s how this one will work:
a. Liz goes to Mississauga to teach, and then later from there to Markham.
b.
She is officially with Paul, so anything that happens with Anthony will
be with the same kind of guilt Mike had when he was interested in
Deanna, but was dating Rhetta Blum.
c. Liz has conditions on her relationship continuing with Paul:
1. He gets a transfer south. In real life with the OPP this would actually take awhile, perhaps years.
2. She won’t visit him, but she will expect Paul to visit often, just
like she expected Warren Blackwood to visit her from his job in B.C.
3. He remains loyal to her, i.e. doesn’t see any other girls, even
though she will be seeing Anthony, innocently and platonically of
course.
d. Paul will fail in all 3 conditions, just like Warren
did and Rhetta did. If it could happen with her calling Paul and
another girl answers the phone, which would be so much like Mike with
Rhetta, it would be perfect. Watch for it! It will be coming to you in
a strip about a year from now."
Also, someone cites this strip.
Does Liz have premarital sex? Now you know! "Well I think that you could assume that she's crossed over since she lived with her boyfriend for well over a year. But like the Mexican novelas, which I love to watch, I've discovered that no matter how hard to imagine it is, everyone wants the heroine to remain pure as the driven snow. So people can read into the storyline what they want to read into the storyline."
April calls it! "So what? For you guys that is normal. When he likes you, you don't like him. When he is with someone, you get jealous and like him again."
Finding Elizabeth, Chapter 24: Enter The Continental!
"“S’okay, Ger,” April Patterson cooed into her cell
phone. “My mom just told me like the cop guy wants 2 talk 2 that
magazine guy first. I can chat with u for a while.”
“Splendid,
April,” Gerald said into his own cell phone from his room across town.
He raised himself slightly off his plush leather sofa and adjusted his
velvet smoking jacket. “I was just enjoying a glass of champagna, how
lovely it would be if you were her to enjoy it with me.”
April’s eyes widened to their accustomed width. “U mean like ur folx let u drink alcohol?!” she gasped.
Gerald looked at his champagne flute, half-filled with Canada Dry. “Why, yes, my sweet,” he murmured seductively."
"Connie Poirier stood at the basin in the Patterson’s downstairs powder room, wringing out a wet cloth for Anthony’s forehead. She sighed with impatience. How much longer was she going to be trapped in this madhouse? She shut off the tap, and picked up the cloth. The faster she got Anthony back on his feet, the faster she could get out of there and see to all she needed to attend to …"
IT IS SO CONNIE!!!
