This is my "star skirt." I found a shirt from the Davis Sky Show, an event I loved in the past, and wanted to do something with it. Finding a "Reach for the Stars" shirt and a yellow shirt with a sun-ish logo on it (albeit it does say Class of 2002, which I am so not) made me quite happy. So I did a flower petal skirt from my favorite book. I ended up making a big pocket on the front with the "Reach for the Stars" logo because figuring out how to fit five petals around made my head hurt. I think it's pretty cool.
This is what remains of this black dress idea. I didn't like how the top two parts came out at all- I shouldn't have picked shirts in size medium (okay, so that was all there was in black), and one of the shirts had a great logo but was crappy otherwise. But this part came out all right. Looks like a cheerleader skirt. I got a tank top that says "Surrender the Booty" that I like to wear with this one.
And here's what I did from this idea. It came out really cool, I think. I love the matching colors. Too bad I don't have a mannequin to pose this on, but I'm not waiting till July to post things again!
I wanted to do another dress like the green one, and there it is. I liked the penguins logo.
And here's a skirt made out of a tie-dyed Mickey sorcerer skirt. (I got these two shirts at a Disney outlet, can you tell?) Nothing really styled about it, just plain.
And this is now a tuxedo shirt, with a stripe down the front and the original Vegas logo on the back. I found the pattern for it online somewhere (link's not with me now, alas) and thought the idea went well with Vegas.
Yup, my camera's back, and here's what I've done in the last month.
The one on the left is supposed to be an Empire-style top. I had a shirt from Picnic Day that despite having not been worn ever because it was too big, had some mysterious stains all over the bottom of it. I got the second shirt from staff picnic day. I don't like white T-shirts because they're see-through, and the blues and golds kind of matched, so I thought, why not put the two together and cover up the stains with the white shirt as a layer of fabric?
Except I cut the white shirt wrong, so I had to fill in some from the first shirt on the sides of the white. It kind of looks like an apron...not in any particularly good day. Anyway, it's kind of eh.
I like the ruffled skirt on the right (mmm, sherbert), but it hunches up in places (particularly the purple layer) and you can't really undo much when sewing on T-shirt material. So I gave up on trying to fix it. Any time you're supposed to do gathers is kind of a pain in the ass anyway.
It actually looks pretty good on me shapewise (not that you can tell). Pardon my lack of decent clothing photos, as while the CC is closed I don't have access to a mannequin.
These two came out MUCH better!
I can't show my prom wear. I can't show the funky skirts I made lately. Astronomy skirt came out cool. Waaaaaaaaaah.
(For the record: camera is fixed and shipped back...to my mom's house because I don't have any reliable way to sign for a package. God only knows when I'm seeing her next to get it back. Not soon enough!)
However, I can draw for you what I'm trying to do right now. It's a navy shirt with a gorgeous blue/orange/yellow Celtic cross on the front. I wanted to add some yellow and orange to the overall design to really bring out the colors.
Yeah, it's pretty much ripping off of Exploratorium dress's style. I was toying with the idea of adding sleeves and enough fabric to make a neckline akin to Tubey, and refashioned the sleeves off of the shirt, but... I'm not sure how to do it. I've got a plain navy shirt around that I have been debating cutting and adding to the top, but I don't know how to do that either.
