I'm taking a glass mosaic class this quarter, and it is AWESOME. Totally addictive. I haven't put the grout on these yet, but here they are all glued on.
I pretty much made the picture for this one up out of my head. I call it "Plumeria Beach." Gee, who's still got Hawaii on the brain? ME ME ME.
This one was an attempt at copying/being inspired by a photo I took at the botanical gardens on Hawaii while I was on vacation. Obviously things had to differ a bit, but you still really get the sense and feel of it from the finished piece.
I REALLY love taking pre-cut pieces and taking what someone else shaped them into and making them into my own shapes. I just love it.
This one I call "Persephone Between Two Worlds." I am working on a short story involving a modern-day D&P&H scenario, so it's on my head. She's got the sun god Helios watching in the corner, the cosmic flower/pathway to Hades on her other side, a change in the weather (otherwise known as "We are SO running out of blue." This is also why Persephone is a redhead.), and her roots below take up half the page. She's a flower blooming above and below. The mirrored bits at the bottom represent Hades watching her from below through reflections.
And she's already got her pomegranate and its seeds leading her back down. I wanted to get her as between the two worlds in this as I could manage, so there you go. Pretty awesome.
