The wings are done

I had some issues with the yarn (Palette by Knit Picks), though. I do NOT know what happened.

Pattern requires: 3 balls of yarn, 220 yds apiece.
Palette has: 3 balls of yarn, 230 yds apiece.

And yet, somehow, I managed to get 1 1/2 wings done before RUNNING OUT OF YARN WTF?!

So I went back to the first wing (which took me a week to do), ripped it out to the point of the other wing, divided the remaining yarn in 2, then started cutting out some rows. You're supposed to do 4 rows and then decrease- from that point on I decreased every 2.

And yet, somehow, finishing the second wing (again), I ran out of yarn AGAIN! What. The. Hell?!

I did the same thing again: unraveled the first wing, divided the yarn, started increasing with EVERY row. THAT time I did not run out.

In the end, it's not a big deal. The wings went down to the bottom of my butt before (a bit long for spending most of the day sitting down), so it's good to have them shortened up a bit. But still: what the hell, Palette?!

Mom's Christmas hoodie is done.

Possibly a bit crookedly sewn on the pocket, but it works.

Horn attempt #2

Followup from here. Well, this went better (though it uh, looks pretty unicorn-phallic).

I sculpted this out of purple Sculpey (see left), but somehow it baked BLACK. Oh well.

I attached it with wire to a barrette and stuck it on my head, then wrapped hair around it to hold it in place better. I think that's workable, though I think I'll have my hair a lot neater on the Big Day (that photo was taken around 1 a.m.).

Horn attempt #1

As you can see...it don't look great. *sigh* Back to the drawing board.

I need to update this sucker.

Really.

• I did finish this project, and it came out looking reasonably well. I need to remember to photograph it.
• I am currently working on (almost finished!) Mom's Christmas present, a crocheted hoodie. ("Summer of Crochet" has turned into "Autumn of Crochet As Well.") I plan on making one for myself as well. Then I showed it to a friend of mine and SHE wants one too.
• Mom also wants me to make something out of tiny-ass yarn, which scares the crap out of me. I kind of doubt that one will be finished.

In other news, I am trying to figure out a purple people eater costume. I wanted something that would use this dress...  and now I am trying to gather accessories.

• The one eye: got an eyepatch.
• The wings: I refuse to buy/wear big wire wings, mainly because I'd crush the hell out of them, and also because I spend most of the day sitting down. I ordered the pattern for these wings instead. I am STILL WAITING for KnitPicks to send me the yarn to make them, though. Grrr... I've never used that tiny of yarn before and am terrified, so I need the time to get them finished, dangit.
• Also when I get that yarn, I want to try making some purple severed fingers. For, y'know, purple people eating. Fake body parts in stores are so cheesy.

As for the horn...this is the real stumper. I am not sure how to do that one, since all you can find in stores are sets of two horns, and online ordered horns were kinda expensive/might not show up in time.

My options are:

• Knock off one of the horns on a set of two and wear that. I think that'll be the Last-Minute-Everything-Else-Crapped-Out option, though.
• Make my own horn out of yarn somehow, possibly as a hat.
• Make my own horn out of Sculpey. This one doesn't sound too bad, I am just not sure how to attach it on my head and get it to STAY on with the supplies I have around the house (am unlikely to make it to a decent craft store before the day).

At the moment, I'm trying the Yarn Option (until the wing yarn comes in, anyway), trying to convert a hat pattern one way or another and see what looks the best, or at least doesn't look too stoopid. Right now I am trying Pinky, but adjusting the pattern for worsted yarn (I have tons of that in purple around here, not so much in bulky, and I can't even buy bulky yarn in this town any more) and fudging/substituting for the part that involves a cable needle.

We shall see.
