Craft Enabled, Domestically Disabled

Working on other things.

I scrounged up some random purple (probably wool, it's not the softest ever) yarn in huge skeins I got free from somewhere and started working on Unmentionables rather than wait a week and pay $50 for delivery and yarn. Since I have to wear tights/leggings under the pantaloons anyway, the softness factor isn't really an issue anyway. It does go surprisingly fast, I've got 3 1/2 inches done on one leg after a few hours of work.

Should I be working on other things?

Ugh.

Such as:

• making a birthday present- got the pattern, don't have the yarn
• maybe make these for the Halloween costume, though I don't think I have the yarn for it right now and it seems dubious that I'd even finish 'em by the 31st.
• I cannot find a decent pair of tan-colored leggings- should I make my own? Would take for-EVER. Again, don't think I have suitable yarn.
• motherfuckinggoddamn Christmas presents for people who won't appreciate them.

Sigh.

I know I should put away the stuff I am working on for other things. But dammit dammit dammit.

Cheating.

I finally did some fudging (I came out two stitches short on ONE increase...I am not starting that from scratch again), and finally I am on to the second stage of working on the dress, going on to the middle.

Huzzah.

Grrr.

I am REALLY TIRED of screwing up the raglan increases and having to take stitches out when I'm close to being done with the raglan increases.

So. Sick. Of. This. Already.

Halloween costume time

So, while at Disneyworld, I got a hat. It is a purple witch hat, but with mouse ears and an orange bow. (Alas, I can't find a pic of this online. This is kinda close. I will eventually find and Photoshop a pic of it for y'all, but I have 1400+ vacation photos to go through.) I had to get it and use it for whatever costume I do this year.

The real question is, how do you do a Minnie witch outfit?

I could do something like make a belt like this (but with this bow) and attach a tail to the end of it.

For the record, here's depictions of Minnie as a witch that I have found online.

These sewing patterns look enough like what I want...though upon researching them, they look both complicated and expensive. Not to mention the ol' "Hmm, when am I getting to a fabric store?" conundrum.

I think I like the short Minnie-dress costumes on the left the best, though, and I could reuse the dress at a certain convention coming up in February...

Argggggggggggh.

I had to start the dress almost entirely from scratch again last night. I realized the reason why it was taking me so long (and 3 balls of yarn) to get from 60-272 stitches was because I'd forgotten to do half the raglan increases. There's supposed to be 4, not 2.

Dammit, dammit, dammit. Back to the drawing board.

Vacation knitting report

Here's how this went:

1. I brought both projects. One extra skein of yarn for skirt #12, and ALL the skeins for the dress (6 total).
2. I never worked on skirt #12 at all the entire time. I was planning on bringing it for working on while at Disney 'cause it's smaller, but... (see #4).
3. I worked on the dress on the airplanes flying over.
4. Then didn't do any knitting the entire time I was at Disney.
5. I did work on the dress for a good chunk of Friday, as my mother forced me to sit through a timeshare presentation (don't ask). At least one of the salespeople, who also is an ADD-hyper sort, thought it was a good idea to have knitting along.
6. I also worked on it during a couple of hours of car-riding on Saturday.
7. And on the planes going home.
8. I am on skein #3 right now.
9. And STILL haven't hit the point where I can stop doing raglan increases yet. GOOD GOD IT'S GETTING OLD AND I STILL HAVE LIKE SEVENTEEN ROWS OF INCREASES TO GO HERE.
10. One lady on a plane saw it and said, "Well, you should have it done by Easter."

I have decided to leave #12 at work and work on the dress at home. Incidentally, I just had to take out a bunch of rows on #12 and am quite irritated at that.

Oh, Ravelry

Still doing the debate, I posted a thread on Ravelry asking what I should do. (Second link is a Ravelry one.)

Torn between two projects

I eventually decided to bring the #12 Skirt on vacation, since (a) it'll take me a bloody long time anyway, and (b) that kind of yarn does well in humid weather, and (c) I don't have to bring so many skeins in the luggage. So once I made that decision, I decided to go back to working on the Saturday in the Park dress for a week...

Now I wanna bring booooooooooth *waaaaaaaaaaah*, because I really like working on the dress and it's easier and goes a whole lot faster.

*whine*

I know I shouldn't, but I want to bring them both, dangit.

In other news, I am attempting to think about the dreaded Holiday Gifting. Which I hate. I think I am about to make ski hats for the relatives because I'm out of alternatives.

Sample shirts

I had to make some no-sew shirts as samples for a school event...they want to be "sustainable", so instead of getting to work with bracelets like usual, it all has to reuse somehow.

I have my doubts that doing shirts is going to work terribly well given the MOBS of people with no craft experience whatsoever, but...whatever.

Anyway, here's the easiest no-sew shirts I could dig up in Generation T. Let's hope this works....
