So I've got the Evil Skirt currently on hiatus while my rage dies down, and I actually got to the point of working in the round on the Saturday In The Park dress, so I don't have to do the bloody raglan increases any more. (I almost always screw them up, I have to count EVERY SINGLE ROW OF STITCHES and redo them a lot.) So that's good.
Knitty came out with two more patterns I want to do, huzzah. Even though one of them I canNOT get gauge on for bloody anything.
And then there's designing my own outfit...
I have wanted to do a peacock costume for years (plus I found a mask). However, I have always worried about the whole tail thing, as I spend most of my costume time sitting on my arse. And finding peacock fabric in real life seems to be a pain.
Ergo, I got the idea to knit a peacock jacket with tailfeathers.
So far I've got the feather part pretty well designed (except for the peacock eyes, I need to work out a small eye version to crochet and then sew onto the knitting). However, I haven't done the basic jacket top part yet, which I don't look forward to doing overmuch. I don't know why since that'll be basic easy knitting compared to the new stitch patterns I just designed...
And I happily found yarn for it. Caron Simply Soft has (a) 366 yards per ball, (b) in many colors, (c) with shininess, and (d) was massively on sale. Of course, some random lady in the craft store had to tell me it wasn't good yarn...
You know, I'm not ashamed of buying cheap yarn. I spent like $60 on "nice" yarn (that I don't even like that much 'cause it's bizarrely flimsy) that I am using on the dress. For the peacock outfit, I bought 16 skeins of yarn (5 for top, 5 for bottom, the other 6 for making the peacock eyes) and with tax, it was $43. And since this is gonna take a lot of yarn, THAT'S AN IMPORTANT FACTOR FOR ME. I got about 1800 yards per main color for this thing. Just for buying 1800 yards in one color of Cascade 220, I would have paid $63. Hell, for all I got yesterday it would have been nearing $200 to buy it in "good" worsted yarn. And yeah, I find Caron a little saggy at times, but you know what? JUST USE SOME SMALLER NEEDLES/HOOKS and that's fixed.
And I say, bugger that, I'll buy the good yarn when I marry a millionaire. I work in large projects that require about 1200 yards minimum most of the time, and this shit gets expensive. (P.S. It is also very annoying to go into "real" yarn stores and all they have is 2-3 skeins of any one color at a time. Uh, not everyone wants to make a scarf out of $50 worth of fancyass yarn.)
