I haven't the heart to dress myself up this horrible year, but I did consider dressing up Baby Yoda. Not the usual ones I crochet--I did buy one of those bigger ones from Target. They have a soft beanbag body and very hard well-sculpted plastic hands and head, which makes him a bit hard-headed, snuggle-wise. I felt like he needed a hat or at least some cushioning.
Yes, I'm the age I am and dressing up the Baby Yoda and you know what, I DON'T GIVE A SHIT. What else do I have when I will forever be in quarantine?
The coat is permanently on, so that's not removeable, but I looked over at a stuffed Stitch I have and thought, "Well, that would work with the ears...."
However, this was a bit tricky because of the stiffness of his head and ears. I couldn't figure out a way to make a one piece hat because if I wanted to cover the ears, they really had to be put on separately. Finally I ended up making two ear....condoms, I guess....and then a wraparound hat to put on top of the ears.
Baby Yoda Stitch Hat:
I used an F hook and blue and pale pink DK yarn.
Ears (make 2):
1. Magic loop, do 6 sts in loop.
2. Do 2 sts per each stitch--12 sts total.
3. Sc2together 4x, then do 4 st--8 sts total.
4. Do 2 sts in first stitch, sc in each stitch to the last stitch, do 2 sts in last stitch (10 sts) Probably want to place a marker on first stitch every time to keep track.
5. Repeat row 4 again six more times (12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22), finish with 22 sts.
6. Sc all the way around for 11 rows.
7. Do 2sts in each stitch all the way around--44 sts, finish off.
Hat:
1. Make 28 chains.
2. Double crochet into the 3rd stitch from hook, dc in each chain until you have 26 sts.
3. Dc on each row for 12 rows.
4. After the 12th row, chain 14 st.
5. Dc into the third stitch from hook and in each chain, then all the way back across the next hat row.
6. When you reach the end, do a slip stitch into the bottom of the last stitch and chain another 14 stitches.
7. Dc into the third stitch from the hook and in each chain until you've filled in the entire row and are back at the original row. Slip stitch across the entire top row to get back to the original start of the flap section.
8. Make 4 more rows of double crochet, finish off on the last row, weave in ends.
Sew 2 buttons to each side where you started the hat, so that the flaps can fold over. Just slip the stitches over the buttons to hold it on, double crochet has plenty of room to not need to bother with making buttonholes. The front flaps fold over around his ears to the back of his head.
Ear lining (pink DK, make two)
1. Chain 2, sc in 2nd chain.
2. Do 2sc in the chain.
3. Do 2sc in both stitches, for total of 4 sts.
4. Sc across (4 sts).
5. Sc in first 3 sts, do 2 sc in last sc.
6. Sc across.
7. Repeat rows 5 and 6 until you have a total of 9 sts.
8. Sc in each stitch across for 14 rows, Finish off, leave a long tail to sew lining on to front of ears.
When putting on the hat: put the ears on first and then button the hat on around the ears to hold them in.
Happy Halloween, I guess.
